Jason Kallsen photography

Background For a number of years my wife Angela and I ran a successful wedding and portrait photography business called Dreamcatchers Photography, based in St. Paul, Minnesota. We shot exclusively in black and white, produced high grade fiber based prints ourselves, as well as great hand-tinted prints. Alas, the inevitable burnout occured from this type of work, and though we were justifiably proud of our results, it was time to put away the cameras and decompress (we still do the occasional wedding for the right clients ... visit www.bluecanoephotography.com for details). My unusually talented wife went back to painting and writing (www.angelakallsen.com), while I concentrated on other things.

My current photograhpy is a combination of many of my interests, mainly focusing on a love of wine, travel, and the outdoors. The advent of digital photography has revived me, knowing that I never have to spend another minute in a cold, chemical filled darkroom. Now I can watch my birdfeeders while I work on images!

The vineyard series are images of wineries, winemakers, and specific and beautiful vineyard sites around the world ... individual parcels of geography that wine experts refer to as 'terrior' (pronounced 'tear-wah'), meaning that a confluence of sun exposure, rainfall, geology, wind, grape variety and clonal selection combine to make original wines that can be made nowhere else but that particular spot.

The travel series are of famous and recognizeable locations, but often with a personal viewpoint. Many of these locations are places I fly into on my way to the vineyards (i.e. Paris or San Francisco).

The outdoor series arises from a love of canoeing, camping, and outdoor leisure, mainly in the Upper Midwest of the United States.

The photography page is being constructed as you read this, and images, prices, and more information will be available soon.
